Personal Empowerment Through Martial Arts
The skills I teach are the same ones that have saved lives, instilled confidence, stopped bullies and got people home safe to their families.
You will see every week in the news stories of sexual assault, bullying, kids succumbing to bullies and hurting themselves, or worse. You will hear about muggings and hope that you or your family would never fall victim to these sorts of awful acts.
Many people, perhaps even yourself, have considered martial arts training but were unsure of where to go or how to get started. The type of training that I am initiating answers questions to multiple problems. “What is it like at first, and what do I do after that?”
All students will enter a two phase process:
- Phase 1: Self defense. All adults and invited teens are trained to defend against the most common attacks they could encounter on the streets. Kids have a specialized program for anti-bullying and women have available to them a specialized program dealing with attacks unique to them.
- Phase 2: The Path to Mastery. All students who choose to continue beyond self defense will enter into longer term training in the ancient warrior traditions of Japanese martial arts.
“Ethan is simply the most effective and helpful coach I’ve met. He can be considered a master at helping people discover solutions. As a model of personal integrity, he respects the individual needs and values of others and gently helps people to find their own answers inside of them. I wholeheartedly recommend his coaching to anyone who genuinely wants to make their life better. ” - Michael Giles, Life Coach
Rebel Budo is a practical combatives and self-defense school drawing from old school Japanese martial arts. All students start with the Phase 1 Combatives and Self-Defense program consisting of the most common scenarios you could find yourself in during a self protection situation. As you continue your training beyond Phase 1, you will delve deeper into our ancient traditions while still maintaining a practical, no nonsense approaches to learning. I also have special programs and scheduling to suit Military, LEO and OGA needs.
Phase 1: Rebel Combatives
SCRAP: Standard Combatives Readiness Accelerated Program
Time to complete: 6-9 months
This initial combatives and self-defense phase is comprised of 50 techniques that are chosen to deal with the most common attacks you could encounter in self-protection situations. Not only are these practical fighting techniques, they are also ways of overcoming an attacker’s attempt to overwhelm and dominate you so that you can escape and evade further violence and get yourself to safety.
Phase 2: The Path to Mastery
Suitable for people from all walks of life, this is a multi-level training experience leading to ranking and certifications. On this path you will naturally develop an even greater ability to deal with gradually increasing levels of pressure.
Savvy: Women’s Self-Defense
Women face challenges from bad guys that are unique to them. From the types of verbal intimidation to the way in which men try to control and harm women, we teach our methods in logical ways that address these specific types of challenges.
Youth Anti-Bullying
We teach kids skills that instill confidence and abilities to verbally and physically defend themselves in tough situations.
Did you know that 1 of 4 teens report being bullied and that 9 of 10 LGBT students report being harassed or bullied at school? Also, 80% of arguments with bullies will end up in physical fight. Let your young one develop life-long skills that enable them to move forward more empowered.
Special Programs
I recognize the complex scheduling and other needs of Military service members, Law Enforcement and other government agency employees. With the possibility of long term deployments and overseas assignments, you might not have time to enroll full-time in a martial arts school. Lets work together to design a calendar that best services your need for efficient learning. Special seminars and workshops are available for you or your organization.
F A C T: Functionality Aliveness Community Tradition
Functionality
In out training, Function precedes Form. If the function of our training for the day is to learn realistic self defense or sport skills, then you will find a class fully Alive. On those days where tradition is the focus, there will be some compliant training drills where you work with your partner to achieve excellent form for that particular traditional movement.
Aliveness
The core of our training is following the Aliveness model. This consists of progressively adding challenges to your training in logical ways so that over time you are more and more able to defend yourself against determined bad guys.
Community
Building our training family and serving the community with authentic martial arts teaching is of great importance. We’ll grow together while learning in a lively, safe environment appropriate for anyone willing to learn.
Tradition
As a student enters the Path to Mastery program we enjoy acknowledging our various historical roots and also begin practices in traditional methods.
